Passport Information

All visitors travelling by air who arrive in the US (including Canadians) are required to present a valid passport or NEXUS card.

Some visitors will require a Visa (in addition to a passport) to enter the US.
Under the
Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1260.html
most travellers from Canada, Mexico and Bermuda do not require a visa to enter the US. 

Under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html#vwp
nationals of 35 participating countries can travel to the US for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa.  Please review the entry requirements carefully.

All other international travellers will require Nonimmigrant visas for entry into the US.  The visa application process can take up to 60 days, so please plan ahead and apply early http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/temp_1305.html.

Arriving in San Diego by Plane
Only 5 minutes from the city centre, the San Diego International Airport handles all passenger flights for San Diego.  San Diego International Airport is the busiest single-runway commercial service airport in the United States and is served by 23 passenger airlines.  ICAIS participants arriving in the US by air should have no difficulty in arranging a direct flight or connecting flight to San Diego.

Upon arrival at the airport there are several options for travelling downtown to the hotel.

Westin San Diego Shuttle Service
The conference hotel is providing complimentary shuttle service between the airport and the hotel. After picking up luggage, participants arriving at the airport should use the complimentary telephone at Arrivals to call the hotel to arrange for shuttle service pick-up.

Taxis and Limousines
Upon exiting the terminal walk to the Transportation Plaza where a Transportation Coordinator will help you obtain a taxi or limousine. No reservations are required.  Fares to the conference hotel or the city centre are less than $20.

San Diego International Airport Car rental Services
If you are planning to rent a car, you should not forget to bring your driver’s license.  Visitors holding a valid driver's licence from their country of origin can drive on California roads.  For car rentals, you will need a passport, valid driver’s license and credit card deposit.  Thirteen car rental agencies operate out of the San Diego International Airport www.san.org/sdia/passenger_services/car_rental.aspx.
Please note, parking in the city is very limited and parking at the conference hotel is valet only (charges apply).

Arriving in San Diego by Train
Amtrak (www.amtrak.com/) provides rail service to cities across the US. Union Station, also known as the Sante Fe Depot, is located in the San Diego city centre at 1050 Kettner Boulevard which is only 2 blocks from the Westin San Diego hotel. In addition to Amtrak service, the Sante Fe Depot is also a terminal for San Diego Northern's Coaster commuter trains, Mexicoach bus routes and the San Diego Trolley light rail system.

Arriving in San Diego by Car
San Diego is approximately 125 miles (200 km) south of Los Angeles and 600 miles (1,000 km) south of San Francisco. The drive from LA to San Diego can take between 2 and three hours depending on traffic congestion.

Local Public Transportation
The Metropolitan Transit Service operates the San Diego Trolley Service (www.sdmts.com/Trolley/Trolley.asp) and a public transportation Bus Shuttle line (www.sdmts.com/Bus/Bus.asp).
